Problem for that website owner that carried the Ad is that once the visitor clicks through to the seller, that’s likely the last you will see of them and you have to start over again to find new visitors. Whereas the seller gathers purchaser details, thanks to your efforts, and can continue in the future to promote new items, etc. So they now have another name added to their list.
To be successful in Internet Marketing one of the concepts that will propel your success is developing your own list so that you promote new ideas and products from time to time. When I started out there was much emphasis on Affiliate Marketing and directing my website visitors to Amazon.com. It seemed that everyone was doing it and many making good money too. Then two years back Amazon changed the way you earned commissions and earlier this year they hurt their affiliates even more by cutting most commission rates down to just 3%. So website owners promoting Amazon products saw the incomes slashed and the real value of the websites. So what do they do now? The wise, each time someone had visited their site, gathered the visitor’s email address and created a list and perhaps periodically sent a Newsletter or details of Product Launches. They had over time created a valuable asset ” A List”.
So you can see the value of List Building. Once you have someone on board, on your list you can promote new products and ideas, earn commission from the vendors “rinse and repeat”.

I was slow to realize the importance of list building having been blinkered by the handsome commissions from Amazon. With all the tools being promoted to help you it was the easy option.
